RESTORATION CLASSES

The Shepherd Studio Workshop originated from the 'Willalooka Strippers'! A TAFE sponsered course in the beginning which Marny conducted in an outback woolshed near Keith in SA. She has been teaching Furniture Restoration since 1982 and has been especially interested in early Australiana and settlement furniture made from Huon pine, Queensland cedar and a host of local regional woods and imported ballast timbers. The technology was born of necessity. No furniture and very little disposable money!

The knowedge was gleaned from old books, asking questions, experimentation and six months weekly classes with Peter Lewellyn Antiques and Restorations (1960s-1980s) who learnt his trade at the revered Charlie Jones Antiques in Ballarat. In 1989 Marny also attended a Restoration and Timber Finishes course at West Dean College in Sussex England.

The skills she uses for restoration and the knowledge gained of furniture construction cross- pollinates into her sculpture!

An occasional four day Restoration Course at Lorne is under consideration.
